Description
Capo del Colle is probably the oldest of the four groups of buildings that form Ancarano and is divided into two parts: one below the imposing ruins of the castle of Castelfranco; the other a little further down with lordly homes.
Of particular interest is the Church of Sant’Antonio with its interesting facade with its prominent transenna, and a fresco of the Redeemer with his hand outstretched in blessing among angels, two prophets on either side of the Agnus Dei and Saint Christopher, dating back to the beginning of the 15th century. Below is a layer of even older frescoes.
The ogival portal is decorated with carved lions (the left-hand one is preserved inside). Inside is the aedicule with 16th century frescoes of the Eternal and the Annunciation.
